Create Appliqué Design

DecoStudio es program takes care of embroidery, vector art creation, monogram and art Appliqué. Appliqué is decoration or trimming cut from one piece of fabric andstitched to another to adddimension and texture. Appliqué desidn can be more economical than embroidery alone. Embroidered design composed of one or more letters, usually the initials of a name, in some case also consist of borders or designs. Below are free tips and a video with Wilcom Deco Studio es to show you a small sample of how to create appliqué designs from the appliqués tool and the Graphic Mode in Wilcom DecoStudio e1.

Create striking appliqué design with the Wilcom’s appliqué tool which automatically builds all the tack-down, base and finishing stitches your machine requires. Automated monogram and applique toolsAutomated monogram and appliqué tools. Use Auto Appliqué to produce all the stitching you require for appliqué objects. Up to four layers of stitching can be generated for each appliqué object, depending on current settings. When you stitch out an appliqué object,  the machine stops between layers. When the guide run has been stitched, lay the appliqué patch over the design and re-start the machine. Or, if using a cutting line, place the fabric over the guide run then trim in position afterthe cutting line has been stitched. Start the machine again for tack and cover stitching.

Use Tag as Appliqué (Universal toolbar) to tag a vector object for conversion to appliqué and Convert (Universal toolbar) to convert vector objects to embroidery objects.

In DecoStudio Graphics mode, the Tag as Appliqué button allows you to tag selected vector objects for conversion to appliqué. The button is disabled until an applicable object is selected in the design window. There are a couple of ways of adjusting the offset of the Appliqué. The Appliqué is really created with your line tools . You can also adjust your Appliqué size. The easy way to do this is (trick) to break the appliqué apart so you have them as a Run object and input C objects. Then you can convert them to any other line objects.

So make a copy of the run stitch that was created for your appliqué placement then while the run object is selected click your input C tool (or right click the object and select Convert to Input C). This will prompt you to defined the width of you column instead of defending the width with your left mouse button use your right mouse button this will create the offset from the line.
Then you can delete the old coverage stitch object.

If you had more than 1 Appliqué you can use the Combine Appliqué Components and this will also brake it apart as shown on the top 2 A.  When an object is selected try right clicking to bring up a menu, you can also right an object from your Color-Object List.

Wilcom embroidery programs are easy use to create appliqué design if you know how to use the program, it is worth to spend more time to explore appliqué tools in your DecoStudio es program.

Wilcom ES

I’ve been using Wilcom es for embroidery machines for over than 5 years without any problems. So many of a different embroidery software I tried just kept putting up road blocks and getting in my way.  As we know most of the embroidery machine manufactures usually have their own embroidery software done by the embroidery software creation companies that create the software. Those embroidery software will all pretty much work the same way and have most of the same features. 

In my opinion they are just trying to lock you into their particular product so that you always have to purchase their support, their updates, their supplies, etc. It doesn't matter what brand of embroidery machine you have, you can usually use whatever digitizing software you like or that suits you best for the job at hand. Then they will tell you that you have to use their software so that you have the proper hoop support or the right thread colors, etc. 

The software you use to digitize your designs probably isn’t going to be a very important decision for you. I have worked with Brother also Tajima embroidery machines,  but I dislike their embroidery software that comes with their machines. It will not allow me to do some things I like to do and their embroidery software seems too simply for me. 

Now I am sure the others will disagree with my choice of embroidery software. Some of them will say how much they love this one or that one because of this or that feature. And trust me, I won’t disagree with them. I’m sure they love what they use. I am just telling you why I use the software I use. For me Wilcom embroidery is the only software that allows me to fully edit raw stitch files as if i had just created it.  

I’m not saying that it is better than one software or another, just that it works best for me. What is Applique

Applique refers to using fabric shapes or designs usually on the trim of a garment that sewed or glued. In the sewing terms, an appliqué refers to a needlework technique in which pieces of fabric, embroidery, or other materials are sewn onto another piece of fabric to create designs, patterns or pictures. Applique is not only fun and easy, it also allow you to really get creative by using up any stray pieces of fabric. Embroidery may also be used in applique, to attach the pieces being mounted or as a supplement to the design and to create more texture and a more distinctive pattern. 

How to Design Applique

With Wilcom Embroidery Studio e1.5, We can quickly and easily create unique monograms with motifs and borders. Create striking appliques with the Wilcom’s applique tool which automatically builds all the tack-down, base and finishing stitches your machine requires. There are a couple of ways of adjusting the offset of the applique. When you create any graphical object in the Graphics Mode and select it icons will appear in the top toolbar including the applique icon. The Applique is really created with your line tools.  We can also adjust our applique size,  below are the easy way to adjust applique size: 

• Break the applique apart so you have them as a Run object and input C object.  
• Then you can convert them to any other line object.  
• Make a copy of the run stitch that was created for your applique placement then while the run object is selected click your input C tool (or right click the object and select Convert to Input C. Machine embroidery applique is an easy technique, quick and produces wonderful results without lots of stitching. Modern consumer embroidery machines quickly stitch applique designs by following a program.  We can make some applique with different fabrics for a new look in easy ways.  Follow these steps:

• First, the fabric that will be the background and the applique fabric are affixed into the machine's embroidery hoop.
• Be sure to stabilize it just as you would for any kind of machine embroidery. 
• Place your applique fabric over the outline. Make sure the fabric isn't stretched and there's no puckering by hold the fabric in place. Other way You can use double-stick tape so it doesn't pucker or bunch up on you.
• The tacking stitch sews next, tacking the applique fabric down.
• Then cuts away the excess appliqué fabric from around the basting stitch. 
• Put the hoop back in the machine and push the button.
• Following this, the machine continues on program. Now your machine will run another tacking stitch around the pattern.
• Then the final outline stitch is applied, putting the finishing touch on your applique.
• If you resize applique design, in best case you will be able to use it as regular embroidery design (not applique) by skipping the first outlines that are supposed to hold applique fabric.

We can use appliques to embellish T-shirt, pillowcase or to create something unique very quickly. Nowadays, many appliques are more often imported from China to keep costs down. Since many designers use appliques that are mass-produced, that is why we can easily find matching accessories or in various items with the same applique. Lets create our own unique applique design.

Change to DecoStudio on Win7

There are many opportunities to upgrade a better software through Wilcom on Win7. More options to me seems like more reasons to go with Wilcom. I purchased the deco studio and then upgrade to their embroidery studio. Now I am working with Wilcom DecoStudio e1.5 and managed to feed designs digitized with DecoStudio not only into industrial SWF but also into my client's Brother home embroidery machine. My Client felt not to understand how to digitize with his old program and is a very happy camper now using DecoStudio. I believe this has something to do with personal habits and of course the level of digitizing skills matters a lot. And I also believe,  if you know  what you are doing and how to software settings should be in different situations, Wilcom DecoStudio e1.5 probably will limit you quite soon.

Before DecoStudio released, there was a huge gap between home embroidery SW and industrial SW, but anyhow, I am still convinced that DecoStudio relates more to industrial users like graphic designers companies who are used to work with graphic programs and now being able to convert their shapes into embroidery but on the other hand also being able just to digitize in the embroidery part of the program without any graphics conversion. 

But this is not a problem of DecoStudio or Wilcom in general. I simply believe you are skilled enough to use the professional ES System with all it's possibilities and DecoStudio does not suit your needs and skills. DecoStudio comes with Corel X4 Graphic Suite and so you can use all the features of Corel Draw to prepare the graphic. Wilcom DecoStudio e1.5 integrates CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 with Wilcom's renowned stitch processor, lettering, monogramming and appliqué tools. In addition, it includes more than 10,000 clipart and digital images, 80 creative templates and 1,000 OpenType® fonts, putting all the tools you need within reach. Wilcom® DecoStudio e1.5 perfectly working in WIndows 7. Please before install make sure you disable Windows7 firewall and any other antivirus software installed.  Also make sure you run in compatibility mode XP sp3 and run Wilcom DecoStudio e1.5 as admin. 

Wilcom DecoStudio e1.5 converts vector objects into stitches and the fine tuning can be done directly in the embroidery part. Even in graphic part you have access to the embroidery letters or you can convert TTF into embroidery or objects of lettering shape. If you have bitmaps you can use Corel's tracing function to create vector objects.

The customers who start to offer also  embroidery in addition to their  prints, don't take nor have the time to get into old style digitizing. They'll not  acceptable stitch outs in a short time. They don't spend hour over hour in manual digitizing like me and you probably will do, like I did as home embroiderer and often do nowadays being in the industry. It is like talk about teaching old dogs new tricks.

I have already collected new clients as a result of my previous work and things are moving along nicely. Luckily, I still have around 2,000 designs that I kept for old clients, so that has been handy. In my case the combination of graphic program and Wilcom DecoStudio e1.5 on Win7 is a great benefit in handling, how about you?.
