Install Wilcom Embroidery DecoStudio e2 on Win 8

I received an email newsletter yesterday from Wilcom International that we can install and run Wilcom DecoStudio e2 and EmbroideryStudio e2 on Windows 8. If you have bought a new computer or need to buy one that comes with windows 8, and you have older Wilcom software such as Wilcom e1.5, Wilcom ES 2006 and older, you’ll need to update to the latest version. Sometimes it just needs awhile for other software to catch up and for manufactures to upgrade their drivers to work with the new Windows versions. 

With such specialized digitizing software as our embroidery and graphics programs it is not always best to get the new Windows operating systems that come out. Now that Windows 8 has been in the market for a while, some of you are asking about running Wilcom embroidery software on this new operating system. Wilcom is continually researching and listening to the marketplace and creating better and better solutions to address common business problems and open up new opportunities.

If you bought Wilcom EmbroideryStudio e2 / DecoStudio e2 more than a few months ago, you may need to download a Windows 8 compatible dongle driver from the Wilcom Support website. An updated Dongle driver V6.51 must be installed before installing Embroidery Studio e2 / DecoStudio e2.

Install Wilcom EmbroideryStudio e2 / DecoStudio e2 on Win 8:

• Before installing Embroidery Studio e1.5 / DecoStudio e1.5 you should first upgrade your embroidery dongle driver. The updated dongle driver can be obtained from the downloads page you must be a registered user.
• Wait for approval.  At least 24 hours for approval as applications are verified manually.
• Login into Wilcom Support Center. Upon registration you have access to special content on the Wilcom website.  However, to access some sections of this site, approval will be required.

If your application has not been approved and you require urgent access to the support center, please call the  Wilcom support office in your region. All DecoStudio Lite e2 customers will need to install the Windows 8 dongle driver.

You only need is to know where to find them. Sometimes looking for an embroidery business for sale in the paper is a good way to start or going with pre-owned embroidery machine.

More used computerized embroidery machines options are available today than ever before and it's important to know these options before you start your embroidery business. There are many factors to consider when buying used embroidery machine, let’s take a look at just a few.

First, ask to yourself these questions before buying an Used Embroider Machine:

1. How old is the used embroidery machine your looking to buy?

Before downloading designs for your embroidery machine is make sure that the websites you are using offer designs in a format that works for your machine and available in a size that your embroidery machine. How to Convert Embroidery Designs

• To convert files to another format in Wilcom TrueSizer do the following steps:
• Run Wilcom Truesizer e2, when the pop-up window appears, just give it about a few seconds to load, you don't need to click anything, it's just an ad, then press ESC. The pop-up window will go away, and TrueSizer will appear. 
• Select File > Open. The Open dialog box will appear.

• From the "Files of Type" dropdown list at the bottom select the format of the original file. Otherwise use that pull down menu to pick "All Files". If you don't pick all files then only the type that you picked will show up. 
• Browse to the location of the file and select the design to be converted by clicking on it . 
• Click Open to open the embroidery file.
• Go to "Save as". The box will open in the middle of the screen again and you go to the bottom pull down menu that says "Save as type".

• From the "Save as type" dropdown list at the bottom select the format that you want to convert. Pick and click on your desired format such as Brother .PES. You may change the file's name in the box provided.

• Then click "Save". You can save to a different destination by changing the location at the top of the box before you click save. 
• In the "Object Properties" window, you can enter the size change you wish in the "Dimensions" area. Enter either a percentage on the right, or a size measurement on the left.

• Click Save. You may change the embroidery file's name in the box provided.
• Your file will now be saved in the required format. Once the designs have converted, load onto your machine and start embroidering.

Don’t worry about how to use different programs, home embroidery software is easy to use once you’ve learned a few basics and comes with tutorials available for each embroidery software has, but the professional embroidery software all have a high learning curve. The professional machine embroidery software will give you more control over functions, so please look into taking classes on the software, or attending an embroidery event.

Many earlier Wilcom ES programs such as wilcom version 9 and wilcom 10 are still able to create great embroidered designs. You still get many advantages by install wilcom ES 2006 on Windows 7. Wilcom ES 2006 was the revolutionary software application for digitizing and working with designs expressly for the embroidery industry.  

Using Wilcom ES 2006 on Windows 7, you can create new embroidery designs in a variety of ways. If you want the most accurate result,  the easiest way to create a design is to use an enlargement drawing on a digitizer tablet. You describe the drawing to the computer by marking reference points with the digitizer puck. You have the alternative of working directly on the computer screen using a bitmapped or vector image as a backdrop, and using the mouse to mark reference points and communicate with the computer. 

Even without a scanned image to use as a template, you still able to create simple shapes directly on the screen by using the integrated drawing tools. These can be used to modify existing embroidery machine designs even if you do not have a scanner or a digitizer tablet. You can also copy a vector drawing into Wilcom ES from a drawing package, such as Corel Draw, via the Windows 7 Clipboard. 

You can convert the graphic objects into embroidery objects by applying embroidery properties to them. Once you have decided what method you will use, the process of digitizing the embroidery design is basically the same. You digitize the design as a series of lines and closed shapes, called embroidery objects. For each line and shape you select a stitch type and input method which determine how they will be stitched. You can change the properties of the embroidery objects and specify automatic machine functions where needed. 

With basic digitizing techniques you can create great embroidery machine design with the input methods provided in Wilcom ES 2006. We feel that the best way to learn how Wilcom ES works is to use and use it with an enjoyable way to produce a design while you become familiar with this multi-featured product.

Recently I've received an update and find some improvement or new feature that was worth every cent. We did some work with applique conversions between EmbroideryStudio and corel. We can do layered appliques, correctly, using this method. And I played a litte with the auto digitizing feature. 

Since partnering with Corel, EmbroideryStudio and DecoStudio have been able to automatically convert vectors to embroidery with built in intelligence that determines the best pull compensation, underlay, stitch types and density based on the fabric you select. These embroidery pargram also maintain the colours and layers of the vector file.

Software pirates have invaded the world of software for embroidery. Some people "crack" the embroidery software and sell it on Internet. When you compare embroidery digitizing software, price is one feature to consider. Use the Internet to learn more about specific embroidery  software on the market. If the dealers are selling software for hundreds or thousands of dollars and someone is selling it "new"  for pennies on the dollar, chances are, it's illegal embroidery digitizing software.

Many software for embroidery e.g PE design, Wilcom's DecoStudio and EmbroideryStudio, Origins, and others need "dongles" or other hardware "security keys" like a reader/writer box to function. Some pirates "crack" the software and sell it claiming no dongle or box or security key is needed. 

Buying illegal or cracked embroidery software is supporting the pirates. I heard from newbies who have been ripped off by these people and can't use the cracked embroidery software. Otherwise, you stand a good chance of getting a virus infect your computer and steal information from it, or having a computer crash by installing "cracked" software. You can also be sued by software companies for purchasing illegal software for embroidery.

It is good for you to ask people with more knowledge and experience than you to take a look at an auction/seller and check them out.
• When you buy your digitizing software from Internet, don't purchase software with a check, money order, money transfer, or other non-refundable method of payment. Use a credit card you can issue a chargeback on and get your money back if you find it's illegal. Make sure to keep all receipts.
• Cracked embroidery software is often nonrefundable and may not offer advanced digitizing options. If you aren't sure whether or not something is legal, don't buy it. No matter how good the deal is. Compare any embroidery software warranty  to determine if it offers enough coverage over a reasonable amount of time.

The bottom line is if you are new on this field, before you start buying software for embroidery from internet, do your research. Ask around and talk to people before wasting your money on illegal/cracked embroidery software that may cost you hundreds or thousands of dollars in legal fees in the future. Read user reviews from other embroidery users or professionals on embroidery forum to learn more about the embroidery digitizing software will benefit you. 

Wilcom ES

I’ve been using Wilcom es for embroidery machines for over than 5 years without any problems. So many of a different embroidery software I tried just kept putting up road blocks and getting in my way.  As we know most of the embroidery machine manufactures usually have their own embroidery software done by the embroidery software creation companies that create the software. Those embroidery software will all pretty much work the same way and have most of the same features. 

In my opinion they are just trying to lock you into their particular product so that you always have to purchase their support, their updates, their supplies, etc. It doesn't matter what brand of embroidery machine you have, you can usually use whatever digitizing software you like or that suits you best for the job at hand. Then they will tell you that you have to use their software so that you have the proper hoop support or the right thread colors, etc. 

The software you use to digitize your designs probably isn’t going to be a very important decision for you. I have worked with Brother also Tajima embroidery machines,  but I dislike their embroidery software that comes with their machines. It will not allow me to do some things I like to do and their embroidery software seems too simply for me. 

Now I am sure the others will disagree with my choice of embroidery software. Some of them will say how much they love this one or that one because of this or that feature. And trust me, I won’t disagree with them. I’m sure they love what they use. I am just telling you why I use the software I use. For me Wilcom embroidery is the only software that allows me to fully edit raw stitch files as if i had just created it.  

I’m not saying that it is better than one software or another, just that it works best for me. Some companies or person specialized in usb emulators attempt to convince the computer that the dongle is present. What is USB Dongel? An usb dongle is the security device that allows you to use embroidery software and without the dongle, the embroidery software may run only in a restricted mode, or not at all. The USB dongel device used as a very complicated anti-piracy measure for expensive software. Because software that makes use of dongles is typically for a small market, the price of a replacement dongle can be hundreds of US Dollars. Programs that use dongles include computer-aided design (CAD), audio-video software and  image rendering e.g Wilcom embroidery software. Many embroidery software companies ask that the user buy an entirely new software package if their usb dongle is lost, broken or stolen, further inflating the price. The defenders of dongle emulators claim that such restrictions on software use are unfair and incompatible with real-world conditions of computer and software use. Most in common problems, the dongle can be stolen ( we have heard of many dongle thefts ), dongle requires special threatment in moving from home to office and so on,  and usb dongle can die/break very often.

The bad news for you, at least in my case, if your dongle is stolen you are left up the creek basically, pay for a new one or else. As you already know the dongle's size is very tiny like maybe about 2 inches long, when our office moved I misplaced my dongle and couldn't find it. When i purchased the dongle, the dealer said to replace it I would have to buy the complete program again. They gave a discount, but it still cost a lot. Embroidery software distributors don't usually respond to a dongle problem quickly unless you decide to place an order for additional software license. You could try to have legal proceedings with software vendor, but I can't imagine how long that would take.

Dongle problems such as those mentioned above can lead to significant interruptions in your use of protected software. A usb dongle security device is a piece of hardware that must be plugged into a computer's USB port before some kinds of software programs will run. This is to ensure that the software isn't copied or otherwise shared. A dongle emulator is a fake dongle created to bypassing this limitation. To cope with these problems, some companies specialize in emulators that attempt to convince the computer that the dongle is present. Dongles are often encrypted to avoid this kind of hack, in this scenario, even if a hacker were to fool the software into thinking the device was present, the embroidery software would be unable to run because it would be missing key parts of its code. As hackers find ways to bypass these new innovations, new forms of dongle encryption may need to be found. So a dongle emulator is also known as a "dongle crack". Dongle crack requires updating with every new version of software.

Regardless of what the purpose, the term of dongle has expanded beyond software protection to include any small device that plugs into the USB or other computer port. These devices are usually used to provide some function that is not built in to the computer itself. Dongle security devices typically use a computer's USB port. Rather than simply checking for the presence of the piece of hardware, the software sends an encrypted request to the device for a validation key, which is also encrypted. This means that in order to crack the dongle, a hacker must first crack the encryption.

Currently, there are few ways one can get a dongle emulator. If a person has skills in bypassing network security, they can make one themselves. Many information on how to create a dongle emulator is typically passed from hacker to hacker and traded on Internet forums. This usb emulator could alter the software to not look for the dongle or to think it was present when it wasn't. It was hard to figure out the differences in what each one actually could do. In many of terms I assumed that I understood embroidery terminology. Finally, editors also should allow to produce stitches in various ways for both fills and strokes. In that respect, they share functionality with digitizers.
• Lettering programs can create fonts that are stitchable. If you just use a digitizer to translate letters from a vector file you likely will get bad results, since the filling algorithm is not optimized for lettering.
• Transformers can resize, rotate, (sometimes) change colors, i.e. do some lightweight global editing.
• Organizers help to organize embroidery designs on your hard disk.
• Complete embroidery CAD Suites, can create sophisticated drawings (vector based embroidery, VBE) and support all the design stages. Often, the drawing module is based on existing high-end vector graphics software. E.g. Pulse's embroideryi2 is an add-on for either Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW; (Intel Macs, only). Bernina's Embroidery software is based on Corel (made for the home market). Converter software between various file formats exists, however depending on your sewing machine you will have to make an effort for finding the right tool. How those stitches are programmed determine the quality of the design.  I suggest finding out what embroidery software is produced by the company providing the converter. The program works with forms and auto-adapted stitches, display and operations are fairly close to stitching level.

Change to DecoStudio on Win7

There are many opportunities to upgrade a better software through Wilcom on Win7. More options to me seems like more reasons to go with Wilcom. I purchased the deco studio and then upgrade to their embroidery studio. Now I am working with Wilcom DecoStudio e1.5 and managed to feed designs digitized with DecoStudio not only into industrial SWF but also into my client's Brother home embroidery machine. My Client felt not to understand how to digitize with his old program and is a very happy camper now using DecoStudio. I believe this has something to do with personal habits and of course the level of digitizing skills matters a lot. And I also believe,  if you know  what you are doing and how to software settings should be in different situations, Wilcom DecoStudio e1.5 probably will limit you quite soon.

I simply believe you are skilled enough to use the professional ES System with all it's possibilities and DecoStudio does not suit your needs and skills. Even in graphic part you have access to the embroidery letters or you can convert TTF into embroidery or objects of lettering shape. If you have bitmaps you can use Corel's tracing function to create vector objects.

The customers who start to offer also  embroidery in addition to their  prints, don't take nor have the time to get into old style digitizing. They'll not  acceptable stitch outs in a short time. They don't spend hour over hour in manual digitizing like me and you probably will do, like I did as home embroiderer and often do nowadays being in the industry. It is like talk about teaching old dogs new tricks.

I have already collected new clients as a result of my previous work and things are moving along nicely. Luckily, I still have around 2,000 designs that I kept for old clients, so that has been handy. In my case the combination of graphic program and Wilcom DecoStudio e1.5 on Win7 is a great benefit in handling, how about you?.
